Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin (prepuce) — the skin covering the tip (glans) of the penis. It is performed for medical indications such as phimosis (tight foreskin that cannot be retracted), paraphimosis (foreskin trapped behind the glans), recurrent balanitis (foreskin infections), or for cultural and personal preferences.
